We move through life in a continuous rhythm of encounter and departure. Within communities, we build our lives alongside one another and seek a sense of belonging in the spaces we share. Yet even in moments of closeness, an invisible distance remains—a quiet interval between one person and another that can never be fully crossed.
My paintings dwell within this interval. I explore the emotional terrain shaped by tension, separation, and fleeting moments of unspoken connection. The figures in my work share the same rooms, streets, and landscapes, yet each remains within a private world formed by memory, emotion, and experience.
At the heart of my practice lies the paradox that intimacy and distance can exist at the same time. Being close to someone does not necessarily mean that we fully know them. My figures reveal themselves through posture, gesture, and atmosphere, while their inner lives and personal narratives remain beyond easy reach. Rather than defining or categorizing them, I invite viewers to linger before the work and imagine the lives that exist beyond what is visible.
The distance I portray, however, does not signify only loneliness or disconnection. It is also a space of possibility—a place where recognition, companionship, and quiet dependence can emerge. Even without fully understanding one another, people continue to gather, observe, protect, and endure.
Through these relationships, I seek to reveal the identity and dignity that emerge between people, as well as a quiet yet enduring resilience—the strength to preserve the mystery of the self, hold one’s place in the world, and continue moving forward alongside others.
